Sounds like an excellent app that actually has the potential to change peoples’ unhealthy behaviors. We’re on the cusp of a health crisis due to obesity, so I’m excited to try this app for myself and recommend it to my friends who are trying to be healthier. Don’t care for the name, though. Not sure what the association is to parrots?

Hi Luis,

I agree with you. Anything that will aid people in making positive health behavior choices is exciting. My guess is that the Macaw is a very long lived bird! Count me in!

Don’t like the name either…

This type of app could revolutionize the way we look at health in the future. I like the branding myself. AFLAC has the duck and Geico has a lizard, why not a Macaw . . .cooler and more colorful than a duck. To have that much health and medical information in the palm of your hand would be amazing.

Luis,

The McCaw is a bird known for its very long lifespan. That is the connection along with it being a mascot that CAN actually speak…think about the talking duck, gekko, etc.

Luis we called it macaw because we wanted it to be fun and zippy because.healthcare can sometimes be boring. Macaws live to be very old in some cases 100+ years. They also sit on your shoulder and talk to you just like our app

The Parrot is symbolic of long life—90+ year lifespan!…It is clever, talks and most people identify with it positively. ….It is the Panacea for our epidemic health care problem. Good Luck U.S. Preventive Medicine!

Like the app! It has already kicked me into gear and is changing some habits that I wasn’t aware that weren’t all that healthy for me and making me pay more attention to ‘moving’ instead of ‘waiting until tomorrow’. Like it and am looking forward to using it and getting to know more about it.

About

MOBILE APPS SHOWDOWN

spacer

The Mobile Apps Showdown is a fast-paced contest where you're asked to weigh in on the apps you think have what it takes to make it. For the months leading up to the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2012) we'll be presenting the contestants to you. You can try them, watch demos, make your feelings known, and ultimately vote on a winner. We're platform agnostic, so if it's mobile it's in the competition.

spacer

The top ten apps will join us at CES 2012 for an action packed event hosted by Jon Hein and Gary Dell'Abate from the Howard Stern Show.

spacer

Robin Raskin, creator of the Mobile Apps Showdown, will be there to emcee events.

spacer

By the end of this year more than 7 billion apps will have been downloaded. Only you know which ones are the keepers.
