Developer’s Description: After years of worrying about predatory behavior, many parents are finding out that their own kids are often the cause of their own troubles. Sexting-sending provocative images or text digitally-has become a serious problem.

PicsChecker, a product of Wyd Eye Software, is an anti-sexting application built for the Android platform. The concept is simple: event capture. If a minor knows that their parents are going to be receiving a copy of what they capture and send, they’ll think twice before doing the wrong thing.

The software copies and stores MMS and SMS messages sent from a minor’s mobile phone. Then it sends the account owner (typically the parent) a single, daily email showing thumbnail copies of images, time sent and the phone number, or email address, the images were delivered to.
allows parents and minors to work together to deem what is or isn’t appropriate for their family. The company, Wyd Eye Software, is keeping tight wraps on the product until CES but the intent is clear. Stop children from finding themselves victims of their own actions.

Cost: $1.99/month

Great for parents…Just knowing that their parents know what is out there, can and will be watching and have easy access to naughty behavior will keep students from engaging in potentially destructive behavior

An excellent app whose time has come. We need to keep our kids safe and smart.

The concept is good. One thing you better clear first, if an adult (parent or otherwise) receives this from a minor and it happens to have sexting wll the adult then be guilty in a court of law that they are receiving underage porn? Intent of doing something good is weighed less than the intent of receiving underage porn. I can't tell you how many crooks have sued and won against somebody - to you and I was “within their rights”.

I like the idea that purchasing this app would require the combined efforts of parent and child. So many times it seems we go “behind the backs” of our children, when we need to utilize a program (like this) with an open dialogue, discussing the issues. Obviously the developers have the right ideas. Excellent app.

You are partially correct. SOLICITING underage porn is illegal. KEEPING underage porn is illegal. However, since no one can know what is in an email before they open it, if the minor were to send something illegal, the account owner is not responsible for the content. Only how they handle the content.

I'm thankful they are making making apps to protect our kids, what a great idea this one is. This could also be handy for the sports stars hee hee

Wyd Eye is way ahead of its time. Parents have learned to deal with predatory behavior on their PCs but phones are unknown territory. Still, the same issues that have been kicking around with PCs apply to phones. Do you want to keep your kids under surveillance? Tough question that every parent needs to answer for themselves.

MOBILE APPS SHOWDOWN

spacer

The Mobile Apps Showdown is a fast-paced contest where you're asked to weigh in on the apps you think have what it takes to make it. For the months leading up to the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2012) we'll be presenting the contestants to you. You can try them, watch demos, make your feelings known, and ultimately vote on a winner. We're platform agnostic, so if it's mobile it's in the competition.

The top ten apps will join us at CES 2012 for an action packed event hosted by Jon Hein and Gary Dell'Abate from the Howard Stern Show.

Robin Raskin, creator of the Mobile Apps Showdown, will be there to emcee events.
