Developer’s Description: We all know you type much faster with word completion, where your smartphone decides what it thinks you’re thinking. SwiftKey claims to be the fastest and most intelligent of the bunch. It actually learns about what you type and its predictions get better and more personalized as you use the app. Plus it’s multilingual and can predict the next word you might be typing based on the last. Some of the alpha testers had comments like “the thing reads my mind.” You can watch a demo at http://www.youtube.com/SwiftKeyApp.

Cost: 31-day free trial and then $3.99

Pro: Amazing word prediction, excellent (and multiple) keyboard layouts, gestures for deleting words, multi-language support.

Con: Takes time to learn your writing style, can lag, not very unique (looks like HTC Sense Keyboard), lacks a light/dark color option.

Why it’s a Finalist: SwiftKey uses artificial intelligence to learn and predict what you’re about to type using what they call fluency. After using SwiftKey for a few weeks, I’m almost writing complete sentences using just the prediction ribbon. Overall SwiftKey is a great replacement for the standard Android keyboard and the prediction is second to no other. There are plenty of competitors in the Android keyboard market and SwiftKey is one of the best, mainly because if its prediction engine.

A smart word completion. I hope it will finally allow me to type HELL instead of replacing it with he'll! I love apple but I don't think anyone over there says, HELL!

Been using this since it was in Beta. As soon as it went live, I bought the paid version. A+

Definitely the best keyboard for Android, I've tested them all!

Had this as an initial launch in Beta. Paid came along and I purchased it. I have like 5 different keyboards in my arsenal. SwiftKey is the ONLY keyboard that I use. A++

the only keyboard replacement that understands foreign languages. It proposes corrections and completions if I include words in French, Spanish, and others.

Hintkeys is humbler but in the long run works better as it gives more priority for flexible writing styles (including your own) unlike swift key which doesn't give much choice.

Absolutely, NOTHING compares to swiftkey… I have tried every keyboard replacement available and spent the money to do it… I will never leave swiftkey again… nuff said. I dare anyone to try it for the trial period and you will buy it…

About

MOBILE APPS SHOWDOWN

spacer

The Mobile Apps Showdown is a fast-paced contest where you're asked to weigh in on the apps you think have what it takes to make it. For the months leading up to the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2012) we'll be presenting the contestants to you. You can try them, watch demos, make your feelings known, and ultimately vote on a winner. We're platform agnostic, so if it's mobile it's in the competition.

The top ten apps will join us at CES 2012 for an action packed event hosted by Jon Hein and Gary Dell'Abate from the Howard Stern Show.

spacer

Robin Raskin, creator of the Mobile Apps Showdown, will be there to emcee events.

spacer

By the end of this year more than 7 billion apps will have been downloaded. Only you know which ones are the keepers.
