Developer’s Description: Solar Walk is an excellent educational app about space and everything in it. It lets you explore our Solar system in exquisite detail. With Earth as your home base, you wander the Solar system, cruising the planets and moons and making discoveries along the way. Solar Walk takes advantage of the touching, pinching, twisting, swiping actions with iOS allowing you to interact and navigate through our Solar system in a very intuitive fashion. Any kids with even a vague interest in science will love exploring space with it.

JUDGE’S REMARKS

The solar system is 3D and now your app can be too. Solar Walk is listed as the first 3D solar system app model. The views include everything from a 3D to satellite trajectories and tracking. Tapping on a planet or other celestial body brings up a ton of information.

Pros: The app has a time machine so you can travel to see the position of planets and satellites in a certain day, month and year. And there’s a 3D mode.

Cons: Most iPad users aren’t using 3D TV yet. Using the 3D on screen relies on cyan-red glasses. The results is 3D though not especially immersive.
