The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas will administer this unique, annual awards competition to celebrate the NYC area’s best, young tech innovators in this program called “10 Under 20: Young Innovators to Watch,” honoring 10 high school and college students under 20 years old who are on the forefront of hardware and software innovation. The winners will be announced in a special ceremony at CES on January 8, 2017 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
All individuals participating in the Award must be between the ages of 14 and 19 years old. In addition, all individuals participating must be either currently enrolled in high school or a two- or four-year accredited college or university in the 5 boroughs of New York City or be a permanent resident of New York City and enrolled in a two- or four-year accredited college or an academic equivalent outside of the 5 boroughs. Minors must identify themselves as such in their application and will require parental or legal guardian consent to participate. Projects eligible for an award should be an existing project or product that may include but is not limited to the result of a school, extracurricular, or outside-of-school activity, including hackathons, community events, consulting projects or entrepreneurial activities. Projects can be entered for consideration in five different tech innovation categories. You may enter the project in up to three categories if more than one is applicable. Two winners will be selected in each of the following fields Appreneur Scholarships: Mobile Apps STEAM/STEM Maker Projects Robotics Social Enterprise
No, the recommendation letter is an optional portion of the application that must be submitted before November 30, 2016 11:59 PM EDT. Recommendation forms can be found in the online application where you can both download to share and upload once complete.
For the purposes of 10 Under 20: Young Innovators to Watch, a working prototype will be defined as something that is clearly demonstrating the value of the product either through all or a combination of showing the final design, aesthetics, materials and functionality of the concept. Yes, teams are limited to submitting one application form containing a list of all affiliated team members. Any application form from a team must identify a single delegate as the individual eligible to receive a 10 Under 20 award. Recommendation letters should reflect the recommender’s familiarity with the team’s work, process and character. All members of the team must meet the age and school criteria in order to qualify. If your team is selected for a scholarship, you will elect one team member to join us at CES in Las Vegas to attend the 10Under20 awards ceremony and accept the prize on your group’s behalf.
