The inaugural Mobile Apps showdown has come to a close, but not without selecting two fantastic mobile applications as winners in the competition.

Drum roll, please….

And the winners are – Clixtr won in the live competition, while Gwabbit took home the online prize.

Clixtr, a mobile app that turns smartphones into smartcameras by leveraging location-based technologies and the rapidly improving quality of camera phones, was selected as the winner of the Mobile Apps Showdown live CES audience applause-o-meter. Clixtr users create events, upload mobile photos, and, for the first time ever, create real-time event photo streams with the users around them. At the standing-room-only competition, each of the finalists gave a four-minute demonstration of their products to the live audience, who then voted for the app they felt was the best, and Clixtr won the day with the most applause from the audience.

And that brings us to our second winner, Gwabbit. Gwabbit is the only provider of automatic email contact management (ECM) solutions for the contact cloud that automatically searches and identifies contacts embedded in emails and adds or updates that information to your information in a single click. When online voting officially ended at 12:00 a.m. EST on January 9th, Gwabbit, LLC was selected as the other winner of the Mobile Apps Showdown. This was an incredibly tight vote, so we would like to give a shout-out to DateCheck, which was edged out by Gwabbit by a slim margin of several hundred votes.

One note about the voting: Voting ended last night at 12 a.m. precisely. We kept the polls open so people could still visit the voting page, but the winner was determined buy the number of votes at midnight. See below for the results captured at midnight last night.

Congratulations to both of the winners, and to all of the other Mobile Apps Showdown competitors.

The votes keep rolling in, and this is gearing up to be a tight race. The clock is ticking, and time is running out. But there is still time to vote for your favorite app in the Mobile Apps Showdown. If you haven’t voted yet, head over to the Mobile Apps Showdown Ballot Box page and cast your vote. Votes, really — you get 25 votes to distribute as you see fit. All on one, or spread around, you be the judge.

So how are our contestants doing? This has all the earmarks of a two-party race. Currently, DateCheck is in the lead, showing us that people are leery of potential partners — they want all the cards on the table before the first date. But the race is tight. A mere 6,400 votes behind is another contender, Gwabbit, which helps you turn BlackBerry emails into Outlook contacts.

Can Gwabbit gwab the title, or will DateCheck body-check Gwabbit and take the prize? And lets not rule out an upset from another competitor. For example, the next nearest contender is ShopSavvy, which lets you comparison shop by scanning a barcode using your iPhone — pretty thrifty. Although it’s in third place and nearly 40,000 votes behind, that doesn’t mean it can’t catch up, if enough savvy shoppers vote for it.

And that’s where you come in. Don’t sit idly by; make your voice heard. Go to the Mobile Apps Showdown Ballot Box page and vote for your favorite or favorites. Voting will end at midnight Friday, so time is limited. And if you’re at CES, don’t forget to attend the live Mobile Apps Showdown Competition at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, January 9, in Room N255-257 of the Convention Center’s North Hall.

VOTE NOW

Geodelic: A free application that browses your surroundings, Geodelic lets you swipe through locations on your iPhone or Android phone to quickly find anything from a java joint to a dry cleaner or a cash machine. Over time, the app learns what you like, giving you personalized results.

Meanwhile, the online competition is in full swing. Votes have been pouring in for our 20 semifinalists, and we’ve got ourselves a tight race to determine our people’s choice winner. Perhaps the current leader, ShopSavvy, has benefited from the busy holiday shopping season, but this free barcode scanner application is out in front with more than 19,000 votes. Lurking only 2,500 votes behind in second place is Facade, which bestows a new look upon Windows Mobile phones. And in third place and still within striking distance is Geodelic, a free app that searches your surroundings.

Be sure you get your votes in. Simply head to the Ballot Box and cast your votes for your favorite mobile app or apps. You’ve got 25 votes at your disposal — use them! Voting closes next Friday, January 8, where at CES we’ll announce the people’s choice winner.

At the show, all 20 of our semifinalists will demo live from the Mobile Apps Showdown stage in the North Hall at CES 2010 (beginning on January 7). Stop by and see them — the show will be a constant rotation of apps.

Who says the best can’t rise to the top? Not us. Here at the Mobile Apps Showdown, we know that you know which apps have been naughty and which apps have been nice. Now we need you to cast your vote for your favorite mobile app.

We did the tough work for you. Our judges from NetShelter Technology Media looked at tons of apps, hashing out the pros and cons. We’ve now narrowed the field to 20 fabulous semifinalists.

Make your vote count on our Ballot Box Page!

What’s the score:

At the moment, TeleNav GPS Navigator is stealing the show. For ten dollars a month, it turns your phone into a turn-by-turn, voice-navigation GPS. SPB TV, an app that transforms your phone into a tiny TV, is in second place. And as crazy as it seems, DateCheck, an app whose motto is “look up before you hook up,” currently holds third place.

What happens next:

All semifinalists will demo live from the Mobile Apps Showdown stage in the North Hall at CES 2010 (beginning on January 7). Stop by and see them — the show will be a constant rotation of apps. By January 9, we’ll have ten finalists who will go on to the big stage in the Ballroom at the LVCC (Saturday, January 9 at 12:30 in Room N257). On that day, we’ll also tally up the online votes and name a people’s choice winner. So whether you’re with us at CES or with us online, you’ve got an important vote to cast. Go for it. (Next year perhaps we’ll have a mobile app to let you cast your vote.)
