The inaugural Mobile Apps showdown has come to a close, but not without selecting two fantastic mobile applications as winners in the competition.

Drum roll, please….

And the winners are – Clixtr won in the live competition, while Gwabbit took home the online prize.

Clixtr, a mobile app that turns smartphones into smartcameras by leveraging location-based technologies and the rapidly improving quality of camera phones, was selected as the winner of the Mobile Apps Showdown live CES audience applause-o-meter. Clixtr users create events, upload mobile photos, and, for the first time ever, create real-time event photo streams with the users around them.  At the standing-room-only competition, each of the finalists gave a four-minute demonstration of their products to the live audience, who then voted for the app they felt was the best, and Clixtr won the day with the most applause from the audience.

And that brings us to our second winner, Gwabbit. Gwabbit is the only provider of automatic email contact management (ECM) solutions for the contact cloud that automatically searches and identifies contacts embedded in emails and adds or updates that information to your information in a single click. When online voting officially ended at 12:00 a.m. EST on January 9th, Gwabbit, LLC was selected as the other winner of the Mobile Apps Showdown. This was an incredibly tight vote, so we would like to give a shout-out to DateCheck, which was edged out by Gwabbit by a slim margin of several hundred votes.

One note about the voting: Voting ended last night at 12 a.m. precisely. We kept the polls open so people could still visit the voting page, but the winner was determined buy the number of votes at midnight. See below for the results captured at midnight last night.

Congratulations to both of the winners, and to all of the other Mobile Apps Showdown competitors.

  • Name
VERY inaccurate, never even heard of this Clixtr app. Big deal it uploads photos for social networking, joing the other 50 apps out there to do it.

HIGHLY unlikely its a winner of anything.

This is a complete joke. How does DateCheck, an app with 1.5 stars in the app store with only ~1,300 ratings have 115,388 votes? That seems highly unlikely and truthfully for me loses all credibility in this competition.

How it works:

Mobile phone apps from any platform can enter. Our experts narrow the field to a Top 20 and then Top 10. We conduct an online vote to determine a 'people's' winner. All 20 semifinalists are invited to demonstrate their apps at the Mobile Apps Showdown stage in the North Hall during CES. The Top 10 appear before a live voting audience at CES to determine an event winner.

When: Saturday, 12:30 p.m., Jan. 9, 2010

Where: Room N255-257, LVCC, North Hall, 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
