Developer’s description: Cisco WebEx Meeting Center on the iPhone brings meetings in motion to a new reality; with this application, Cisco WebEx meetings can be taken wherever you are, wherever you go. This unique collaboration experience makes full use of the device and network capabilities allowing users to join audio, view presentations and chat intuitively on the familiar iPhone. The application uses Apple’s intuitive and familiar touch screen capabilities where hosts can “pass the ball” from one presenter to the next – right from their iPhones. With a flick of the wrist, users can transfer their WebEx meeting from the iPhone to a PC seamlessly using the Meeting Handoff feature. Even if users lose cellular connection, the WebEx audio systems automatically calls you back and reconnects you. Users can also join a meeting by entering the WebEx meeting number within the app. In addition, users can “step out of meetings,” check out if there are other meetings to join and switch from one to the other with one simple tap. By extending the capability to the iPhone, Cisco is making web conferencing truly mobile and providing workers with access to their corporate applications on the go. No longer bound to their desktops, employees will be able to work wherever and whenever they wish, using the device of their choice. This freedom gives workers the ability to collaborate quickly and easily to get business decisions made faster.

Pros: You don’t need a laptop to join a WebEx meeting. All you need is your iPhone.

Cons: Mute controls and so on are not in the application; you must exit and use the iPhone controls.

Our Host: Robin Raskin
...is a veteran tech journalist and founder of Living in Digital Times. She created the Showdown.

How it works:

Mobile phone apps from any platform can enter. Our experts narrow the field to a Top 20 and then Top 10. We conduct an online vote to determine a 'people's' winner. All 20 semifinalists are invited to demonstrate their apps at the Mobile Apps Showdown stage in the North Hall during CES. The Top 10 appear before a live voting audience at CES to determine an event winner.

When: Saturday, 12:30 p.m., Jan. 9, 2010

Where: Room N255-257, LVCC, North Hall, 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
