Developer’s description: The next evolution of the address book, Orbit is a Contacts Awareness Application for the iPhone and BlackBerry. Orbit integrates core contact information with today’s most popular communication mediums: text, email, voice and social networking. The result is a free, one-click setup application that allows you to interact with your circles of contacts in new ways, such as managing content received from specific people via a unique Volume Meter tool. Orbit’s Volume Meter gives you the ability to interact with the information that’s important to you (and silence the information that isn’t) — no more switching applications to send a text message or check a status update. Orbit includes a smart favorites group, which integrates those contacts you communicate with the most. Orbit also offers key features like Facebook and Twitter synchronization and free outbound text messaging.

Pros: Free app that appears to be able to simplify your various social media networks.

Cons: Not available yet.

Cost: Free

About Mobile Apps Showdown

Our Host: Robin Raskin
...is a veteran tech journalist and founder of Living in Digital Times. She created the Showdown.

How it works:

Mobile phone apps from any platform can enter. Our experts narrow the field to a Top 20 and then Top 10. We conduct an online vote to determine a 'people's' winner. All 20 semifinalists are invited to demonstrate their apps at the Mobile Apps Showdown stage in the North Hall during CES. The Top 10 appear before a live voting audience at CES to determine an event winner.

When: Saturday, 12:30 p.m., Jan. 9, 2010

Where: Room N255-257, LVCC, North Hall, 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
