Developer’s description: Shazam is the premier music-tagging application for the iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and Symbian smartphone platforms. Using its “Tag Now” button, Shazam users can get on-the-spot information on almost any song you’re likely to come across in the course of your day. Once tagged, Shazam returns song information (artist, title, album, release date, etc.) and allows you to purchase a tagged song. You can even share your new find with friends via SMS, email, or Twitter. With Shazam you’ll never be left wondering “what is this song?” Using it is as simple as starting the app and allowing it to listen to any song, and it’s impressively accurate (even in noisy conditions). The only downside is that it doesn’t do well with live performances or when you feel the need to “hum that tune.”
Pros: Never be left wondering “what’s that song? Works in noisy conditions (as in loud, drunken noise).
Cons: Requires 15 seconds to “tag” music – if you’re interrupted before tagging is completed, you’re out of luck. Can’t identify music that’s hummed or whistled. Can’t identify “music” that you “sing.”
