Top 20Developer’s description: SPB TV is an IP-TV viewer optimized to run on mobile devices. SPB TV provides users with over 120 different channels in more than 20 languages, all for a one-time fee instead of subscription payments. The application supports such must-have TV features as on-screen controls for volume and brightness, instantly accessible TV guide, picture-in-picture previews for all offered channels, quick channels switching, and more.

Pros: No subscription costs; easy navigation; reportedly good performance.

Cons: Limited channel lineup; the picture-in-picture feature doesn’t seem all that practical on a tiny smartphone display.

Cost: $9.95 for Android, $14.95 for Windows Mobile

Our Host: Robin Raskin
...is a veteran tech journalist and founder of Living in Digital Times. She created the Showdown.

How it works:

Mobile phone apps from any platform can enter. Our experts narrow the field to a Top 20 and then Top 10. We conduct an online vote to determine a 'people's' winner. All 20 semifinalists are invited to demonstrate their apps at the Mobile Apps Showdown stage in the North Hall during CES. The Top 10 appear before a live voting audience at CES to determine an event winner.

When: Saturday, 12:30 p.m., Jan. 9, 2010

Where: Room N255-257, LVCC, North Hall, 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
