Developer’s description: PinStack.com is a website with reviews, news, and discussions for a number of smartphone platforms. PinStack Mobile Reader, a joint offering from PinStack.com and HandMark, allows mobile access to the site’s information (covering BlackBerry RIM, Apple iPhone, Google Android, Windows Mobile, Nokia Symbian, and Palm WebOS). The mobile version works from within the BlackBerry’s menu with support for additional platforms available in the coming months. You can read PinStack as well as other feeds, whether you’re connected or offline. A customizable “My Keywords” tracks news that’s important to you, a “My Feeds” tab searches and adds RSS feeds from other sites and blogs, and a “My PinStack” tab filters forum updates to download only topics and device news that interest you.

Pros: A single RSS reader for mobile phones that is easily customized.

Cons: Feels most native to Blackberry despite promise of support for additional platforms.

Disclosure: Hayden James, the founder of Pinstack.com, is a partner in this application.  He is one of the our competition screeners.  He will not be involved in any and all discussions about this application among the other screeners.  He will also not take part in any discussions pertaining to any similar, and potentially competitive, apps.

About Mobile Apps Showdown

I'm Robin Raskin, the founder of Living in Digital Times. Click to see more from me.
Our Host: Robin Raskin
...is a veteran tech journalist and founder of Living in Digital Times. She created the Showdown.

How it works:

Mobile phone apps from any platform can enter. Our experts narrow the field to a Top 20 and then Top 10. We conduct an online vote to determine a 'people's' winner. All 20 semifinalists are invited to demonstrate their apps at the Mobile Apps Showdown stage in the North Hall during CES. The Top 10 appear before a live voting audience at CES to determine an event winner.

When: Saturday, 12:30 p.m., Jan. 9, 2010

Where: Room N255-257, LVCC, North Hall, 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
