mas_top10_150h - Copy.jpg Developer’s description: The dating scene can be tricky and treacherous to navigate, which is why Intelius developed DateCheck, a free mobile application that helps singles mingle with an added degree of safety. Intelius are the same folks that power many of the people search engines; this one is mobile. Simply enter the name, phone number, or email address of your evening companion and instantly get accurate and comprehensive results to find out if they are who they say they are. The Sleaze Detector feature searches criminal records, and you can check on property information, personal interests, and present living situation (married or single, for example). The company’s motto? Look up before you hook up.

Pros: With Intelius, the data is likely to be accurate.

Cons: There’s something a little skeevy about checking up on your own date.

Category: Lifestyle

Author: Intelius

Platform: All (Android, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Nokia, iPhone, Palm)

Cost: The app is free; using it to perform a background check costs money. Prices vary depending on information sought.

This is an awesome app for a quick reference when out with a new person. It will give you the basic information on the person so you can quickly see if they are being honest with even the smallest details about where they live or who they live with.

[...] TV, an app that transforms your phone into a tiny TV, is in second place. And as crazy as it seems, DateCheck, an app whose motto is “look up before you hook up,” currently holds third [...]

I was skeptical, but decided that information is power and was worth a try. The app is actually really good and provided some critical information/conversation starters I wouldn't have been able to get any other way. Nice work Intelius!

The goal isn't just to find someone, it's to find that certain someone. But too often that's over-romanticized. This app is practical. Before you figure out if he's your “soul mate”, how about finding out if he's a decent guy? This app's quick background checks are no-brainers; just think of the time it could have saved you already in wasted dates and relationships!

Hi, this app is not available for Nokia, or blackberry yet as far as according to their website. So how come they mention above that its available for all platforms? Its not available for my Nokia S60v5 phone?

eh. Happened to check this out since I'm here at CES. It looks to be #1 in the mobile app showdown, but come on seriously. There are clearly better and more useful apps in this voting showdown list.

Ok, hehehe- this is funny. Sad, funny, but funny. A buddy of mine here at CES decided, as a joke, to use DateCheck on his girlfriend … in front of people … finds out she has a history of dropped prostitution charges from years ago … uncomfortable! … beware the “before you hookup” disclaimer!

forget about privacy, you don't need it anymore …ever thought about that?knowing stuff like that makes it easier for victims of the fear based American society like you are …Ask yourself: do you have the right name? Is the phone number really traceable?

There are many lawsuits against the company that makes this app. Just search for Intelius and you will see it come up on rip off report sites. It is disgusting that NetShelter promotes an application that makes money off of our PERSONAL information. http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/10/27/intelius-f…

This is a joke. There is now way a ripoff app like this can win. And some of the posts below are clearly phony. Intelius must have voted for themselves and had some employees or their PR firm post these bogus reviews of the app.Come on Mobile Apps showdown. At least try to make this contest credible.

About

MOBILE APPS SHOWDOWN

spacer

The Mobile Apps Showdown is a fast-paced contest where you're asked to weigh in on the apps you think have what it takes to make it. For the months leading up to the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2012) we'll be presenting the contestants to you. You can try them, watch demos, make your feelings known, and ultimately vote on a winner. We're platform agnostic, so if it's mobile it's in the competition.

spacer

The top ten apps will join us at CES 2012 for an action packed event hosted by Jon Hein and Gary Dell'Abate from the Howard Stern Show.

spacer

Robin Raskin, creator of the Mobile Apps Showdown, will be there to emcee events.

spacer

By the end of this year more than 7 billion apps will have been downloaded. Only you know which ones are the keepers.
