One thing I look for in a good app is usefulness. Before buying an app, I ask: is this something that I would bring me value on a regular basis? There are many apps that have a somewhat meaningful novelty associated with it, but the true gems are apt to be the ones are useful enough to be used often.
My standard: Useful enough to be used often
